Corgis on a Winter Walk

Corgis on a Winter Walk

There's a story behind this picture. During a Christmas trip to visit family in Meeteetse, Wyoming, I got to stop in Cheyenne and pick up my ex-step dog for a week-long visit. Here Xena and Stella talk about old times while making new tracks along a Wyoming road.
Since the snow, there had been a pickup, a cowboy and his dog, and note the deer tracks crossing laterally.
You are viewing my print, "Corgis on a Winter Walk."
This 9x12 print is offered for auction as the first of a limited edition of 250, the remainder of which will be offered on my web gallery, currently under construction.

Weighing Hen

Weighing Hen

I love this picture of an apparently unconcerned hen that someone thought fat enough to weigh. Hope she's a laying hen, or her days may be numbered. Cropped, doctored, vintage photo.

Mr. Jones and the Waterloo Boy

Mr. Jones and the Waterloo Boy

This is a photo taken near Utica, Nebraska around 1919. It is the first relatively straight (not altered) vintage photo that I've selected for a limited edition and for my Picture-Story a day blog. It is one of the historic photos from the Russell Richmond Collection -- the wonderful archive left to my care by my very talented grandfather, Russell Richmond, an early photographer of rural and Victorian era life. This one features a Mr. Jones and his Waterloo Boy tractor during repairs by the side of the road. Waterloo Boys, it seems, were the precursor for John Deere.

Alongside the straight photo, I've included a picture of a commission I did including this photo in a photo collage. I'm always happy to do more commissions.

The Icons

The Icons

In honor of Martin Luther King, today I'm posting this wonderful image representing two old adversaries, now worn icons, of the Old West. Both overly romanticized -- both wounded in their own ways. Here they seem to have each others' backs as they observe the goings on at an auction.

Chat at Auction

Chat at Auction

One would never see hip-action and attitude like this in your basic businessmen on a New York City street, and I will never be too old to appreciate the east end of a westbound cowboy. Here two horsemen chat while waiting for their horsedrawn buggy to go on the auction block.

Nazi Headquarters

Nazi Headquarters

Here is an image from my vintage Grand Tour collection…an innocent street scene photo taken by tourists in Nuremberg, I believe, at least 10 years before the war. It was probably tucked away and its historical importance forgotten until today. Limited Edition 8.5” x 11"

Blind Woman in Mink

The Blind Woman in Mink

The blind woman barely remembers the slices of light that are photographs, but she lets someone take a picture. She feels secure and confident in her new hat and soft Christmas mink. Her dog is a shoulder to lean on. The sun warms her face. Her toe defines the edge of the world.

Art Deco Field Brothers Station Print

Field Brothers Station

This Art Deco Field Brothers gas station (built in 1919) would be right at home on Route 66, but it's about forty miles south in Pauls Valley, Oklahoma. It was taken on a beautiful summer day, after a long trip, at the end of a friendship (as so many long trips end up being), so it has special meaning to me. It is beautiful but seems lonely -- empty but for the birds flitting in and out from under the canopy. It shines at the crossroads at the center of town, clinging to its own special time in history, not wanting to let it go.

Western Windbreak

Western Windbreak

What a lonely story this windbreak tells of a hundred years farm that sits on the edge of town, a brand new shopping center across the street. Next winter the windbreak and cornfield will be gone, replaced by a Wal-mart or some other bit of urbanity, and a little piece of history will be lost.
